On June 10, 2019, members of the Verona Rescue Squad attended a presentation on Autism given by a member. All shared and discussed their personal experiences in dealing with people on the Autism Spectrum, both as family members and EMS professionals. We have long known that we have to prepared to deal with people with special requirements such as emotionally disturbed people, geriatric people, even cultural sensitivity. It is increasingly important to add autism awareness to our portfolio. We must be aware that every autistic person is unique – we must always present a calm and open presence to the patient and quickly determine how best to care for that patient.
